CHENNAI: The former chief minister and ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam on Friday urged the DMK government to provide appointment orders to Teachers Eligibility Test (TET)-qualified aspirants directly without conducting another competitive exam.

Panneerselvam pointed out that when TET-qualified teaching aspirants protested in 2020, the then Opposition DMK promised them that it would be fulfilled if party comes to power.

"Even, in its poll manifesto, the DMK had assured that all the candidates, who completed TET since 2013, will be given employment,” he said, adding that there has been no announcement in this regard.

Claiming that since the DMK had not fulfilled its promise, TET-qualified teachers were protesting, the deputy opposition leader of the House said the AIADMK also condemn the announcement by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) that it would conduct competitive exams for TET-completed candidates to get appointment in government schools.

Panneerselvam said with Union Government announcing that TET certificate will be valid for a lifetime, qualified teaching aspirants also demanded to scrap the competitive exam and provide appointments according to seniority basis.

"I request the Chief Minister to consider the request of the protesters for cancelling the competitive exam and take effective measures to provide appointment,” he added.
