School reopening in Tamil Nadu postponed to June 10

Though senior officials did not reveal the reason for deferring the reopening of schools, it is widely believed that the rising summer heat has prompted the government to take the decision.

CHENNAI: With the strong heat waves sweeping across the state for the last few days and it is expected to continue, Tamil Nadu government has decided to reopen all the schools including private institutions on June 10 against the original schedule of June 6.

The School Education Department decision to postpone the reopening of schools came against the backdrop of several requests from various political parties, besides parents and educationists.

"Taking into consideration of children' health due to sweltering summer, it was decided to open the schools on June 10 after following the instructions of the Chief Minister M K Stalin", School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said in his social media post.

Welcoming the decision of the Tamil Nadu government to postpone the reopening of schools due to summer heat, TN Parents Teachers Welfare Association secretary K Narasiman said that it would be a great relief not only for the parents but also students. "Students should start their every academic year in the best environment", he added. However, he said the schools and teachers should ensure that four days should be compensated by completing the portions in time for the first mid-term test.

PB Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary of State Platform for Common School System said the government's decision going by MET warning to reopen the schools on June 10 is always good. "Children' health is a primary concern and it has to taken care at all the times". It may be noted that even the school reopening date postponed to June 12 instead of June 6 for all schools in Pudhucherry.
