Heavy downpour for the past four days due to the north east monsoon has damaged the houses of Krishnasamy (48) at Thalai Nagar near Veppanthattai in Perambalur and Sri Rangayee (60) at Venpavur while the wall of Alagudurai’s house in Veppanthattai had collapsed. Fortunately, all the inmates of these houses escaped without any injuries.

Perambalur witnessed heavy rain followed by lightening on Wednesday in which the cow owned by Krishnasamy was killed.

Meanwhile in Karur, the rainwater mixed with sewage entered residential areas. Officials rescued around 4 families from VOC Nagar in the district. They were shifted to the community hall near there and the district administration distributed food and other basic requirements.

Tiruvarur District Collector V Santha who inspected the Munaru head at Needamangalam in the district where the inflow of water increased hour by hour, instructed the officials to be ready for the flood prevention activities.
