Programme on ‘Beat system’ for effective policing in Puducherry

In a bid to bring effectiveness in policing and to transform policing into a citizen-centric service, Puducherry Police organised a programme on “Experience sharing of Beat system for effective policing” at the Pondicherry University on Saturday.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi participated in the function as chief guest in which senior police officials also participated. According to a Raj Nivas release, police officials of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions of the UT were connected through video conferencing.


Speaking on the occasion, Bedi recalled the ways she introduced ‘Beat system’ when she was working as a police officer in New Delhi in 1980-81. She also spoke about the reformation of  criminals which can be taken up gradually and also advised the beat officers to follow the ABC of Beat system (A-Area, B-beat and C-Coalition). She asked the Beat officers to establish connection with Anganwadis, market associations, SHGs etc.


DGP Balaji Srivatsava, Chief Secretary Ashwini Kumar, and SSP Akanshah also spoke on the occasion.
