PMK legislator Arul, 14 others granted bail in attempt to murder case

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has granted conditional anticipatory bail to PMK MLA Arul and fourteen others in an attempt to murder case.

On November 4 last year, five cases were registered at the Yethapur Police Station in Salem district in connection with a clash involving Salem West PMK MLA Arul, his supporters, and supporters of Anbumani Ramadoss.

It was alleged that Arul's supporters had attacked Anbumani's supporters, and in turn, Anbumani's supporters had attacked Arul's group.

Based on the complaint lodged by MLA Arul's side, two cases were registered against the supporters of Anbumani Ramadoss.

Conversely, on the complaint given by Anbumani Ramadoss's supporters, the police registered three cases against MLA Arul and his supporters.

In such a backdrop, Arul and fourteen others filed petitions seeking anticipatory bail before the Madras High Court.

When the matter came up for hearing before Justice AD Jagadish Chandira, the Additional Public Prosecutor submitted that the investigation in the case had been completed and that the injured persons had recovered and were discharged from the hospital in November itself.

Recording the submissions, the Judge granted conditional anticipatory bail to MLA Arul and 14 others and directed that they appear before the police whenever summoned for investigation and not tamper with evidence.
