In a statement issued on Tuesday, Anbumani Ramadoss alleged that the DMK government has been consistently misleading the public by projecting exaggerated investment figures since coming to power. Referring to the Governor's address, he said the claim that Rs 12.16 lakh crore investments were attracted through 1,176 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) was completely false.
He pointed out that the state government had earlier claimed that by September last year, investments worth Rs11.32 lakh crore had already materialised through 1,059 MoUs, creating employment for 34 lakh people. However, according to documents released by him in November, less than Rs1 lakh crore, or about 8.8% of the promised investments, had actually materialised, most of which were expansion projects of existing industries in Tamil Nadu.
Anbumani further stated that even though the government admitted that only 23% of MoUs had reached the operational stage, the actual investment realised remained minimal. He added that after including MoUs signed post-September, the overall realisation percentage had dropped further to 8.2%.
Criticising the government's claims on the power sector, he said no new thermal power projects had been initiated or commissioned during the DMK regime, contrary to claims of thousands of megawatts being added.
He concluded that the people of Tamil Nadu would not be misled by repeated falsehoods and would deliver a fitting response in the upcoming elections.
