One held for bid to loot Ariyalur ATM

The police in Ariyalur district on Tuesday arrested a person who had allegedly attempted to break open an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Thirumanur and loot cash stored in it.

According to sources, people who went to draw money from the Indian Bank’s ATM kiosk in Thirumanur on Tuesday morning were shocked to see the machine tampered with and informed the incident to the Thirumanur police. They rushed to the spot and conducted investigations. The police also retrieved the CCTV footage in the kiosk and held inquiries.


The police then identified the culprit as K Muruganandham (44) of Keezha Kolathur near Thirumanur. While the police went in search of the accused, it was found that he had escaped from the spot sensing their arrival. However, the police soon nabbed him from the house of his relative in Thirumanur where he was hiding, sources said. He was subsequently produced before court and was lodged under judicial custody.
