CHENNAI: Former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday took a dig at the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi's (VCK) anti-liquor conference and said the prohibition conference has been converted into a women's conference as there was no support in the VCK itself for the anti-liquor agenda.

Talking to reporters, after paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Mandapam here, Tamilisai Soundararajan said the VCK leader Thirumavalavan who visited Gandhi Mandapam on Wednesday, did not pay respects to the statue of Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanthi and left the premises after paying tributes to former chief minister K Kamaraj.

"Prohibition is Mahatma Gandhi's policy which the VCK and its ally ruling DMK could not implement in Tamil Nadu, " she said, adding that the VCK's anti-liquor conference had been converted into a women's conference as there was no support for the anti-liquor agenda in their party.

Further, Tamilisai exuded confidence and said a strong alliance would be formed under the leadership of the BJP in Tamil Nadu for the 2026 Assembly polls.

"Many people in Tamil Nadu were disappointed with Minister Udhayanidhi's elevation as deputy Chief Minister. BJP has increased its vote percentage in Tamil Nadu. We can expect a change of regime in 2026 for sure, " added Tamilisai.
