The Tamil Nadu state DGP has asked his officers and men not to take leave from November 10, until further orders are issued. A senior official said that this was a precautionary measure to make sure the entire strength was available for deployment, in case of any untoward incident after the Ayodhya case verdict, likely to be pronounced next week.
The order dated on November 4 further stated that strength of all special units, including the camp office, should be kept ready for deployment of Law and Order duties. The communication has been sent to all Commissioners of Police of all cities and Superintendents of districts, special unit heads and so on. The State police headquarters has asked officers to treat the situation like mobilisation of strength and men as usually done when elections are conducted. Though there is no specific threat or alert of possible violence post Ayodhya verdict, we don’t want to take chances, an official noted.
Also, indicating that the local body election in the state might be held soon, the DGP issued a circular to all Commissioners and Superintendents, asking them to ensure that Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors be posted out from their home zone. Also, anyone who has completed three years as on September, 30, 2019, should be posted out. The DGP has also directed his officers to follow instructions by November 15 and send a report to district election officers.
