No BJP role in controversy over release of Jana Nayagan film, says Nainar Nagendran

“The censor board decides which portion of the film can or cannot be shown. I do not wish to enter into debates about whether it is right or wrong. The BJP has no role in influencing such matters,” he said.

COIMBATORE: BJP state president Nainar Nagendran on Friday said the BJP has no role in the controversy surrounding the release of TVK leader Vijay’s Jana Nayagan movie.

Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, the BJP leader said, akin to enforcement and income tax departments, the censor board is an independent body that frames rules for films.

“The censor board decides which portion of the film can or cannot be shown. I do not wish to enter into debates about whether it is right or wrong. The BJP has no role in influencing such matters,” he said.

On the alliance with AIADMK, he said they have not discussed seat sharing or demanded any specific number of seats for the upcoming polls. Expressing the party’s desire for DMDK to join their alliance, Nagendran said the decision, however, rests with DMDK.

In the BJP, those aspiring to contest the polls will submit their preferences, but the final decision will be made only by the national leadership. Attacking the DMK over its unkept poll promises, Nagendran said the DMK made 532 election promises in 2021, but hasn’t fulfilled most of them.

“The DMK assured of implementing the old pension scheme for Jacto-Geo. After being in power for five years, they now claim to give the pension in June, but the party will not be in power then. They reel out lies that cannot be said anywhere else in the world,” he said.
