NIA handling 2 TN murder cases involving PFI

CHENNAI: In Tamil Nadu, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is handling two murder cases, in which PFI members are allegedly involved.

In the murder of C Sasikumar, which happened on September 22, 2016 in Coimbatore, NIA investigation had revealed PFI involvement. Five persons were arrested in connection with the murder and the agency has filed charge sheet in the case. The case is now in the trial stage, a NIA officer said.

The second case which has PFI links is the murder of Ramalingam, a native of Thanjavur district. Ramalingam, was killed on 5 February 2019 allegedly by the activists of PFI "for interfering in their religious propagation activity" at Pakku Vinayagam Thopu village in Thiruvidaimarudur. In this case also NIA has filed a charge sheet and so far 12 people were arrested by the investigators.

Five suspects of the case still remain untraced and information on the whereabouts of each of them carry a reward of Rs 5 lakh.
