Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with the officials and the farmers on kudimaramathu scheme, the Chief Minister said, the AIADMK government is noted for releasing highest fund of Rs 2,325 crore for drought relief to the farmers and also the government has ensured the maximum compensation through crop insurance scheme.

“The AIADMK government has decided to establish a distribution chain among 10 districts like Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Tiruchy, Dindigul, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli to the tune of Rs 482.36 crore which would reduce the post-harvest loss and marketing facilities to fetch proper income to the farmers who grow horticulture crops,” said the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said, through the kudimaramathu scheme, undertaken to desilt waterbodies with the participation of the farming community, has desilted 6,278 ponds and lakes in the state in the past four years. Since, desilting of the entire 24,000 waterbodies controlled by the PWD is not possible at a single stretch, the government has been choosing a certain number of waterbodies in a year and undertaking desilting works. “We have allocated a fund of Rs 1,000 crore to save rain water going waste and the project has been implemented for the past three months while three retired chief engineers and two superintendent engineers are deputed to study the possibilities to construct check dams across rivers in the state and they would submit their report and the government would work out the possibilities accordingly,” Chief Minister Palaniswami said.

Earlier, he opened buildings constructed under various departments together to the tune of Rs 25.53 crore.
