COIMBATORE: Members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged a protest on Wednesday after the statue of BR Ambedkar near Uthangarai in Krishnagiri was desecrated with a garland of slippers.

Locals, shocked by the incident, alerted party functionaries, who rushed to the site and raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. A team from the Uthangarai police station arrived promptly, removed the slipper garland, and cleaned the statue.

After the police assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators, VCK members dispersed peacefully. The police increased security at the site to prevent any further incidents.
