Unable to bear his torture, Amuthavalli and her son got separated from him and were living alone for over the last six years. On Saturday night, Karuppusamy called his wife over phone and asked her to come home to discuss something important.

When she, accompanied by her son, visited him, Karuppusamy again picked up a quarrel under the influence of alcohol. Following heated exchange of words, Karuppusamy took a sickle and attempted to hack his son. However, the boy overpowered his father, snatched away the sickle and attacked himin revenge.  

The police said Karuppusamy suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. On receiving information, a police team from Mettupalayam station rushed to the spot and sent the body of the deceased for a post-mortem at Mettupalayam Government Hospital.

The police also arrested the minor boy, who is studying first year in a private college in Karamadai. Further investigations are on.
