Minister hands over solatium to kin of mother, 2 girls washed away in Koundanya

Commercial Taxes Minister KC Veeramani handed over Rs 25,000 to Yuvaraj, husband of Nadiya and father of Niveda and Harshini, who were washed away by the surging waters of Koundanya river at Gudiyattam on Tuesday.  On Monday, after Yuvaraj, an employee in a private shop had returned to work after lunch, Nadiya was pestered by her daughters to see the Kaundanya river in spate. Nadiya obliged. When the girls tried to wash their feet in the river, they were swept away. Panicked Nadiya, who did not know swimming, jumped into the river to save them. All the three drowned and their bodies were retrieved, while police registered a case. The Minister handed over the amount on the advice of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, officials said
