CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday said he would make Tamil Nadu a superior State by fulfilling the dreams of the people, describing it as his first poll promise for the ensuing Assembly election.

He launched a door-to-door survey to assess the impact of government welfare schemes under the programme ‘Unga Kanava Solluga’ at Ponneri taluk in Tiruvallur district. After distributing kits to field workers and interacting with beneficiaries, he said the Dravidian model government had fulfilled 404 of the 505 promises made in its election manifesto. He added that several non-manifesto schemes, such as the morning breakfast scheme, Nan Mudhalvan and Innuyir Kappom, had also been implemented.

Criticising the AIADMK and the BJP-led Union government, the Chief Minister alleged that the previous regime had mortgaged the State’s rights and was now spreading false propaganda against the DMK government. He claimed that data released by the Union government showed Tamil Nadu at the forefront in all sectors, despite not receiving adequate financial support from the Centre.

Referring to Governor RN Ravi, CM Stalin said the constitutional head, who should act as a bridge between the Union and the State governments, was instead acting against the welfare of Tamil Nadu. He alleged that the Governor had been impeding Bills passed by the State Assembly.

The Chief Minister said students benefiting from government schemes would one day acknowledge the government when they reached key positions in their careers.

Listing various welfare initiatives, including the Pongal gift hamper along with cash assistance of Rs 3,000, he said the Dravidian model government was implementing schemes that were essential for the people. He added that the ‘Unga Kanava Solluga’ programme was aimed at enabling beneficiaries to share their aspirations directly with the government.

Stating that the survey would be conducted over 30 days, Stalin said he would announce a mega dream project thereafter, outlining a visionary scheme for 2030. He said that following its implementation, the State would become self-sufficient in seven sectors, namely rural and urban infrastructure.
