Madras HC adjourns hearing on Jaffer Sadiq's plea in money laundering case for 2 weeks

The ED submitted that the plea of Jaffer Sadiq is not maintainable and sought time to advance the arguments.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court adjourned the hearing of arrested drug kingpin and sacked DMK functionary Jaffer Sadiq's plea after the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) submitted the petition is not maintainable.

A division bench of Justice MS Ramesh and Justice Sunder Mohan heard the petition moved by Jaffer Sadiq seeking to qaush the arrest order issued against him under prevention of money laundering act (PMLA).

The ED submitted that the plea of Jaffer Sadiq is not maintainable and sought time to advance the arguments.

After the request the bench posted the matter after two weeks.

The ED sleuths from Chennai zone arrested Jaffer Sadiq in the Tihar Central Prison, New Delhi, where he has been lodged after being arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for smuggling pseudoephedrine to Australia and New Zealand.

The ED registered the case under the prevention of money laundering act connecting to the drug smuggling case.

Challenging the arrest order Jaffer Sadiq moved a petition in High Court.

He contended that the ED had failed to produce him before the Court within 24 hours of his arrest and sought for relief.
