LTTE denies role in Rajiv assassination

Even as the release of the seven convicts involved in the killing of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has come under heavy debate, the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in a statement has claimed that it had nothing to do with the killing of Rajiv Gandhi and that a concerted effort has been on to pin them down on this.

An LTTE statement which comes nearly 10 years after its annihilation, said despite several self-explanations and submission of proof that LTTE had nothing to do with Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, the misinformation continues till date. “More so, even after our annihilation 10 years ago, the misinformation that LTTE was behind Rajiv’s murder indicates that it is a well-orchestrated and concerted move to wipe out Eelam Tamils,” the statement signed by its legal wing representative Lathan Sundralingam and political representative Gurubaran Guruswamy said. It also blamed Lankan government for the murder.
