CHENNAI: Organising secretary of DMK RS Bharathi on Friday alleged that a "lottery family" was now dominating Tamil Nadu politics, in an apparent veiled attack on a prominent business family.

Addressing reporters at Anna Arivalayam, Bharathi termed the development "unfortunate" and said Tamil Nadu politics had earlier been shaped by leaders such as CN Annadurai, M Karunanidhi, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

"Now politics is moving towards the hands of a lottery family. It makes us feel sad," Bharathi said.

Replying to a question on DMK functionaries joining rival parties after the Assembly election, the DMK leader said such developments were not new to the party.

"It is not shocking to us. The DMK has faced several political situations in the past," he said. The senior DMK leader also asserted that the party had revived itself strongly even after electoral defeats in previous decades.

Even though we could not win the election, the DMK has bounced back from setbacks and secured massive victories in the past. The DMK is like a flowing river. Election results alone cannot decide the future of a political movement," Bharathi added.

With multiple comments arising from the DMK leaders on Friday, former Chief Minister and party president MK Stalin had appealed to the cadre to refrain from making harsh remarks.
