TIRUCHY: Kumbakonam DMK MLA submitted a petition with a set of long pending demands, including the bifurcation of Kumbakonam district with the Collector on Tuesday.

As per the instruction of Chief Minister MK Stalin, the Kumbakonam MLA Sakkottai G Anbalagan approached Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver and handed over a petition with long pending demands of the people from his assembly segment.

Anbalagan in his petition stated that creating a new Kumbakonam revenue district bifurcating Thanjavur has been a long pending demand of the people. He also said, with the realisation of the new Kumbakonam district, the facilities would be improved. Similarly, he asked for a new bus stand by identifying a proper place and acquiring land, the new bus stand should have all facilities. Since several thousand passengers make use of Kumbakonam bus stand as a transit spot for the interior places of the district, a new bus stand is a need of the hour, he stated in the petition.

The other demands include uninterrupted drinking water supply, Government Law College, Government Engineering College, Polytechnic College and Underground EB line to the town.

The Collector, who received the petition, promised the MLA to forward it to the government.
