COIMBATORE: A six-month-old kitten, stranded atop a 60-foot-tall coconut tree for three days in Coimbatore, was rescued in a dramatic operation by fire and rescue personnel on Friday.

The kitten had climbed the coconut tree near the Kaniyur panchayat office after it was chased by a dog. Although the dog eventually left, the frightened and exhausted kitten remained perched at the top, too scared to climb down.

Concerned residents, hearing its continuous cries, alerted the Karumathampatti fire and rescue services, prompting an immediate response.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and set up a ladder to reach the kitten. Using a snake-catching tool, they gently secured the animal, placed it in a bucket, and slowly brought it down to safety.

The operation, which lasted nearly an hour, concluded successfully with the kitten receiving first aid and being fed by the rescue team. The act of rescue by the firefighters drew appreciation for their concern.
