The team also surveyed the temporary structure put in place, after nine shutters of the old Kollidam regulator collapsed on August 22 due to heavy flow of water.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had earlier announced a plan to construct a new regulator nearby and sanctioned Rs 410 crore for the project.

Subsequently, he set up an expert committee, which included representatives of a private construction firm. The PWD officials had made a blue print of the proposed regulator based on feedback given by a team of engineers from the committee.

On Saturday, a team of professors from the department of civil engineering, IIT Madras, led by A Boominathan, visited the spot and inspected the temporary structure.

The academics informed the media that they would examine the blue print in a detailed manner and make alterations if it was needed based on the geographical condition and the soil quality at the proposed spot.
