IAF strike not for poll gain: Thambidurai

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and Senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai on Saturday said the IAF strike on terror camps in Pakistan was necessary, adding that it should not be construed as an attempt by the BJP-led Union government to gain political advantage.

Speaking to reporters in Karur, Thambidurai said, “India lost more than 40 soldiers in the terrorist attack. It was necessary to strike back at them. By doing so, India has proved to be a more powerful country.”

“Since our Prime Minister acted swiftly, it became possible. People should not see the IAF strike as an attempt by the Union government to seek a political gain,” he said.

Pointing out that Modi had compared Edappadi K Palaniswami with former CM J Jayalalithaa for executing projects with similar courage, Thambidurai claimed that the PM has been extending his fullest support to the State government to execute good schemes for the people.

“At the same time, we will not compromise with our policy. Since both the Centre and state are maintaining a cordial relationship, we are able to bring several developmental projects to Tamil Nadu,” he said.
