House mourns death of PH Pandian

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday adopted a condolence resolution mourning the demise of former Speaker P H Pandian, who had proclaimed that the “Speaker has sky-high powers”, in the city a few days ago.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday adopted a condolence resolution mourning the demise of former Speaker P H Pandian, who had proclaimed that the “Speaker has sky-high powers”, in the city a few days ago.


The resolution was moved by incumbent Speaker P Dhanapal.


After adopting the resolution, members observed two minutes’ silence as mark of respect to the late leader.


The House was later adjourned for 15 minutes after which the Question Hour was taken up.


The House also paid obituary references in respect of 13 former members who died during the intervening period. The senior AIADMK leader died at a private hospital in the city on Saturday morning after a prolonged illness.


Pandian was 74 and is survived by four sons and a daughter.
