Honest policeman returns Rs 2.30 lakh to owner of lorry involved in accident

A cop proved that honesty among police was not dead as he found more than Rs 2 lakh in a vehicle which was involved in an accident.

He retrieved the money and handed it over to the vehicle owner in Nemili police limits in Ranipet district’s Arakkonam sub-division on Monday evening. The issue relates to an accident involving a lorry and a two wheeler near the Manjambadi railway gate resulting in one death and injuries to another. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped after the accident fearing being lynched by the locals. Constable Manjunathan ensured that the injured were rushed to the hospital and then when he was checking the lorry, he found Rs 2.39 lakh in the vehicle’s cabin. He immediately contacted the owner and when the latter turned up, he handed over the money to him. The constable was praised for his honesty and has been promised a reward.
