Hearing on bail plea of DMK men deferred to Oct 8

The hearing on the bail petition of DMK functionaries, who were booked for derogatory speech against the Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister, was adjourned to October 8 by a local court in Coimbatore on Friday.

The rural police booked seven DMK functionaries, including the party’s organising secretary RS Bharathi and MLA N Karthik, for making derogatory comments against the Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister at a public meeting in Coimbatore recently.

Addressing a public meet on September 26, they accused the Chief Minister, deputy Chief Minister and cabinet ministers of involving in corruption in awarding contracts to various state government projects. They were booked under IPC sections 294(b) for uttering obscene words, 153(A) for promoting enmity between two groups, 504 for intent to disturb the peace and 505 for statements conducing to public mischief. 

When the bail petition came up for hearing on Friday, the government pleader sought more time to present his arguments. Following this, the case was posted for hearing on October 8 by judge Gunasekaran.
