When the plea case up on Wednesday, Justice K Ravichandra Babu posted it to May 28 for further hearing after directing the government counsel to file the counter.

The union represented by president M Munuswamy submitted that it had 25,000 members, but the number of hairdressers in the State would be around 10 lakh. On an average, each one of them earned around Rs 15,000 per month. But the lockdown pushed all of them to penury.

Noting that the industrial dispute raised in this regard under ID Act on the file of Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Chennai, has failed to evoke any response, the union sought the court to direct the State to enable them resume their work and offer compensation of Rs 30,000.
