CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government informed the Madras High Court that a Government Order has been issued to constitute district-level committees to abolish the orderly system across the State.

The submission was made in a petition filed by A Radhakrishnan, a Salem resident, seeking protection for himself and for temple land.

During the hearing, the High Court had earlier questioned whether its 2022 directions to eradicate the orderly system in Tamil Nadu had been fully implemented.

When the matter came up for hearing before the bench comprising Justices SM Subramaniam and C Kumarappan, Advocate General PS Raman appeared on behalf of the State and submitted that a Government Order had been issued to constitute such committees in all districts. He placed the Government Order on record.

The Advocate General further sought time to file a status report on the effective implementation of the order.

Accepting the request, the Bench adjourned the matter by four weeks.
