As the Tiruchy International Airport exceeded the target set for overseas cargo handling during the financial year 2019-20, even before the nationwide lockdown, the exporters were demanding an exclusive cargo service from Tiruchy.

As per the growing demands, the Spice Jet operated an exclusive cargo service to Singapore via Chennai on May 8 for the much relief of the exporters from Tiruchy. Vegetables as brinjal, drumstick, ladies finger, ginger, coconut and fruits like banana, mango were exported, along with a big consignment of lemon. It took off with 11 tonnes of consignment.

And this has received a good response among the exporters who had earlier sent their consignment in the passenger flights.

Subsequently, regular cargo services were planned from May 12. Accordingly, on May 12, a cargo flight arrived with the consignments from Singapore at 11.40 pm and on May 13, it took off with consignment weighing 13 tonnes from Tiruchy airport.

Meanwhile, the same cargo flight that arrived on May 13 evening was sent on May 14 (Thursday) with a consignment weighing 13 tonnes of vegetables, fruits and flowers to Singapore.

With the good response, the Indigo flight services is also planning to operate their cargo services to Singapore and Malaysia from Tiruchy, according to an official source.
