“Cultural events/functions which are structured in nature shall be permitted in closed spaces with a maximum of 50 percentage of the hall capacity and with the ceiling of 200 persons. Further, in open spaces also such cultural events/functions shale be permitted with a maximum ceiling of 200 persons,” said Chief Secretary K Shanmugam, in the GO.

The state government, on October 31, granted permission for cultural functions with a maximum of 100 persons from October 16, but citing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, state government later withdrew the GO. However, there were representations from music academies to grant permission for cultural events during the annual event.

“Taking into account the annual music festival scheduled in the month of December, 2020, the state government amends the previous GO, dated October 31 and permits cultural events/functions. Further, prior permission for inducting such functions shall be obtained from the Commissioner of Police in respect of Chennai district and from the District Collectors in other districts,” said Shanmugam.
