Police said that the trio came to the house of the cameraman, identified as Ashok Kumar, while he was sleeping. When he opened the door the three picked up a quarrel. Suddenly, the gang members pulled out knives and stabbed him on the stomach and chest.

On hearing his screams, neighbours rushed to his house, but the gang had already fled the scene. Kumar was rushed to the Vellore government hospital, but he succumbed to injuries on the way.

The police registered a case and arrested the three, who were identified as Tirumalai (35), Ramesh (22) and Augustin (22), all residents of Old town.

The trio, who peddled ganja in the locality, killed Kumar suspecting that he was a police informant and based on his information, the cops were frequently troubling them. Further investigations are on.
