The Director General of Police ordered the Superintendent of Police of all districts in Tamil Nadu to ban Friends of Police (FOP) for two months on Sunday.

This comes following a report which suspected that Friends of Police might have a role in the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and his son Bennicks.

It was also mentioned that the FOP would not be allowed to assist the Police or for patrolling. They will only be used for awareness campaigns.

CB-CID IG Shankar said that they would be investigating the Friends of Police who were on duty on the day of the incident in the Sathankulam Police Station.

Earlier, SP Jayakumar banned FOP in Thoothukudi. It was also banned in Madurai.

Moreover, in Vilupuram, SP Radhakrishnan had announced that Friends of Police would be used only for social work.
