TIRUCHY: Thanjavur police on Friday arrested four persons, including a history sheeter, for ransacking a private bar after a verbal quarrel erupted over the bill.

Ragupathi, Thanjavur North District DMK Engineers Wing organiser, runs a bar at Kumbakonam. On Thursday, during the New Year celebration, a group of four who were later identified as Sarath (35), Anthony (37), Vinod (36) and Sakthivel (57) consumed alcohol.

When the staff gave the bills, the group argued with him. Since the staff reportedly failed to give a prompt response, the group started ransacking the bar. They also hurled empty bottles at the staff and escaped from the spot without paying.
