CHENNAI: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has appointed Ku Pa Krishnan as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).

The appointment marks the first major board-level nomination made by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government after assuming office.

Ku Pa Krishnan had contested the recent Assembly election from the Lalgudi constituency but lost to Leemarose Martin by a margin of 2,739 votes.

Following his defeat, political circles speculated that Krishnan could be fielded in the proposed by-election to the Tiruchy East Assembly constituency following the resignation of Chief Minister Vijay from the seat.

However, with his appointment as Chairman of TNUHDB, the possibility of him contesting the Tiruchy East bypoll has effectively narrowed.

The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board is responsible for implementing housing and urban development schemes for economically weaker sections and urban poor across the State.
