CHENNAI: A fire that broke out at the old taluk office complex in the Gandhi Road area of Tiruttani, where the Enforcement Police station is located, destroyed at least three seized vehicles. The damaged vehicles had been seized over several years and parked at the premises.

In the fire that broke out in the afternoon, a tempo van, a car, and a goods auto were gutted. Upon receiving information, fire tenders rushed to the spot and fought the blaze for nearly an hour before bringing it under control.

Due to the swift action of the firefighters, hundreds of motorcycles parked nearby escaped damage.

Thick black smoke enveloped the neighbourhood following the fire.

Local residents allege that garbage collected from Tiruttani municipality is routinely dumped in the old taluk office complex by workers, and that intoxicated youths loitering in the area are responsible for such fires.

No casualties have been reported in the incident.
