Elias (45), the driver, who is a native of Kerala, had stopped the EMU between Arakkonam and Puliyamangalam around 9 pm on Tuesday as the signal was showing red. As there was clearance of signal for a long time, some passengers picked up an argument with the driver, demanding to know when the train would move as Arakkonam junction was only five minutes away.

The argument between the two parties intensified when Elias said he would move the train only after the signal turns green. Meanwhile, some miscreants pelted stones at the locomotive in which Elias was injured. The train finally reached Arakkonam junction at 9.55 pm. Based on a complaint a case was registered and Elias was admitted to the Arakkonam railway hospital. Thereafter, he was shifted to the Chennai Perambur railway hospital.
