Duraimurugan to get Anna award from CM Stalin on Jan 16

CHENNAI: Ahead of Thiruvalluvar Thirunal day, which falls on January 15th or 16th as part of the Pongal festival, the State government on Tuesday announced the recipients of the Ayyan Thiruvalluvar award for 2026, the Peraignar Anna, Thanthai Periyar, and Kalaignar awards, among others, for 2025.

According to an official release, scholar of Saiva Siddhantham Sathyavel Muruganar has been selected for the Ayyan Thiruvalluvar award 2026, which is presented to persons popularising the values and principles of Thirukkural in society.

DMK general secretary and Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan has been selected for the Perarignar Anna award, presented to persons who make outstanding contributions to the development of Tamil society.


Poet Nellai Jayantha has been selected for the Mahakavi Bharathiyaar award, while former Chief Secretary V Iraianbu has been picked for the Thiru Vi Ka award 2025.

Su Chellappa would be the recipient of the Muthamil Kavalar Ki Aa Pa Vishwanatham award. The Thanthai Periyar Award for 2025 would be presented to Dravidar Kazhagam Propaganda Secretary and lawyer Arulmozhi, and the Annal Ambedkar Award 2025 would be presented to VCK MLA and General Secretary of the Party, Sinthanai Selvan.

Kalaignar Award 2025 has been announced to the writer and Former MP Viduthalai Virumbi. Paventhar Bharathidasan Award for 2025 has been conferred on Poet Yuga Bharathi.


The awards, carrying cash rewards and citations, would be presented to them by Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thiruvalluvar Day, January 16.
