Duo pledges fake jewels in Thanjavur, held

The Tiruvaiyaru police registered a case, investigated by perusing the CCTV footage from the spot and arrested the accused.

TIRUCHY: The Thanjavur police arrested two youths on Saturday for pledging fake jewellery for Rs 3.68 lakh. Siva (26) of Vizhuthiyur and Sriram (21) of Sethur, both from Karaikal, arrived at a pawn shop run by Kanagapath Parthi (28) in Punnainallur's Mariamman temple area in Thanjavur and tried to pledge three sovereigns of jewellery with the hallmark emblem.

They received a loan of Rs 1.84 lakh and repeated the same at a pawn shop in Tiruvaiyaru run by Vinodkumar Chopra (48). Later, the owners found that the jewels they had pledged were fake, and they lodged separate complaints, and a case was registered.

The Tiruvaiyaru police registered a case, investigated by perusing the CCTV footage from the spot and arrested the accused. Further investigation is under way.
