Curriculum updation for Classes 6 to 12 at brisk pace in Tamil Nadu

The 38 districts have been divided into seven zones for effective syllabus updation. Secretary of School Education Chandra Mohan held a preliminary consultation with the members of the two committees.

CHENNAI: After the release of the draft curriculum for Classes 1 to 5, a week ago, the process for a new curriculum for Classes 6 to 12, by the collaboration of the Directorate of School Education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), and expert committees, is in full swing.

The 38 districts have been divided into seven zones for effective syllabus updation. Secretary of School Education Chandra Mohan held a preliminary consultation with the members of the two committees. "The curriculum should be developed in a way that acquires 21st-century skills, and should be age-appropriate and student-driven," said the secretary during the meeting.

With the work for the curriculum for Classes 6 to 12 under way, the draft curriculum of Classes 1 to 5 is available for viewing and feedback on https://tnschools.gov.in. Feedback can be submitted before January 25.

The draft curriculum has been designed for Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science, Environmental Science and Social Science for Classes 1 to 5.
