COVID cases on the decline, 838 new cases in TN

The number of COVID cases declined further in Tamil Nadu as only 838 cases were reported on Monday, including three imported from other states. The total number reached 8,01,414.

As many as 279 cases were reported in Chennai. In the districts, Coimbatore recorded 83 and Chengalpattu recorded 43.

A total of 10 more deaths were recorded, including three in private and seven in government hospitals. The total number of deaths in the State has reached 12,166.

A total of 985 more people were discharged from several hospitals across the State, taking the total number to 8,01,414 and 7,970 cases are active currently. The State tested 60,502 samples and 60,174 persons on Monday.

Meanwhile, no UK returnees or their contacts tested positive on MOnday. So far, 44 returnees and their contacts have been tested positive, including one who turned positive for the new mutant strain. Of the 2,300 passengers who travelled from the UK between November 25 and December 23, the authorities traced 2,146 and 2,122 of those were negative.
