Coonoor rains: Retired IAF officer killed as boulder rolls off hill, falls on his car

CHENNAI: A retired Indian Air Force officer died after a boulder fell on the car he was travelling in on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor mountain road in the Nilgiris district on Wednesday (October 7) morning amid heavy rain.

According to a Daily Thanthi report, the deceased was identified as Krishnamurthy (65), a resident of Jagathala in Aruvankadu near Coonoor.

Krishnamurthy was returning to his village with his family after visiting relatives in Coimbatore. When the car was passing near Burliyar at the foothills of Coonoor, a boulder suddenly rolled down from the hill and fell on the rear of the vehicle.

Krishnamurthy and his wife Devaki (54), who were seated in the rear, sustained serious injuries. Nearby residents rescued them and rushed them to the Government Medical College Hospital.

However, Krishnamurthy, who was admitted to the intensive care unit, died without responding to treatment.

Devaki and the other passengers in the car sustained minor injuries and are undergoing treatment.
