COIMBATORE: As part of the ongoing crackdown against drug peddlers, the Coimbatore City Police on Sunday conducted searches in houses and places, where college students are staying. The search follows the recent arrest of some college students for being in possession of synthetic drugs, ganja, and pills.

“Searches were conducted in 29 houses including Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) tenements in Ukkadam and in Big Bazaar Street, and Ramanathapuram areas, where college-going students from other districts are staying on rent. However, no seizure was made following the search,” said a police official.

In August this year, a large fleet of the city police had conducted searches at houses and rooms of college students in Sulur, Kinathukadavu, Chettipalayam and Neelambur on the outskirts of the district, seizing 3 kg of ganja, machetes, intoxicants, injections, and 42 two-wheelers.
