CM Stalin launches Pongal gift hampers

The gift pack includes 1 kilogram of raw rice, 1 kilogram of sugar, tamarind, a whole sugarcane, and other essential items needed for the Pongal festival.

CHENNAI: CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today inaugurated the distribution of Pongal gift hampers at a ration shop in Saidapet, marking the official launch of the state's annual Pongal celebration initiative.

The gift pack includes 1 kilogram of raw rice, 1 kilogram of sugar, tamarind, a whole sugarcane, and other essential items needed for the Pongal festival. Additionally, a free dhoti and saree are being provided as part of the festive gift pack.

In connection with this initiative, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a Government Order (GO) to facilitate the distribution of these gift packs through ration shops across the state.

The GO specifies the distribution of over 1,77,22,000 dhotis and 1,77,64,000 saris to eligible families.

The distribution will take place from today, January 9 until January 13 through the 37,224 fair price shops across Tamil Nadu. These gift packs will be made available to all rice cardholders, ensuring that families across every district of the state can participate in the Pongal celebrations.

Chief Minister M K Stalin, who launched the scheme today was joined by several key officials, including KR Periyasamy, Minister of Co-operatives, R Sakkarabani, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Chennai Mayor R Priya, MP Tamizhachi Thangapandian, Deputy Mayor Mahesh Kumar, and senior officials.
