Cleanliness worker dies during work in Kancheepuram

CHENNAI: Sethu (55), a contract cleanliness worker with the Kancheepuram Corporation, died of cardiac arrest while on duty in Kancheepuram on Saturday. He was posted in Orikkai village near Kancheepuram, where he suddenly developed severe chest pain while working.

He walked on his own to a nearby Primary Health Centre and informed the staff about the chest pain he was experiencing. However, within a few minutes of reaching the health centre, he collapsed and lost consciousness.

Doctors at the PHC administered first aid and he was shifted to the Kancheepuram GH in an 108 ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead, said that he had suffered a massive heart attack and had died while being transported in the ambulance.

Kancheepuram Corporation Commissioner and officials from the health department visited the hospital and paid floral tributes to the deceased worker.

Following the incident, Kancheepuram Taluk police visited the hospital and sent the body for a post-mortem.
