Petrol bomb hurled at RSS functionary's house near Chennai

The small fire was put out by the family and the neighbours who came to the rescue. Tambaram City Police rushed to the scene on information and began investigations.

CHENNAI: Unidentified miscreants hurled Petrol bomb (molotov cocktail) at the residence of a RSS functionary in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Chitlapakkam in Chennai outskirts during the early hours of Saturday.

No person was injured or no property damage was caused except for the burnt footwear, police sources said.

Police sources said that the incident happened around 4 am. The occupant, Sitaraman (62), a district co-ordinator in RSS was inside the house with his family and the family members rushed out on hearing a loud thud.

The small fire was put out by the family and the neighbours who came to the rescue. Tambaram City Police rushed to the scene on information and began investigations. Preliminary investigations revealed that a bike-borne duo had carried out the attack. Police are collecting CCTV footage in the neighbourhood to ascertain the identity of the suspects.

On Friday, in a similar incident in Kovaipudur in Coimbatore, unidentified persons had hurled petrol bombs at the residence of a a RSS functionary after which security was heightened in the region.
