The searches came after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the agency to investigate the alleged multi-crore recruitment scam following a petition.

In the petition, R Sardar Basha, a member of the college general body, charged A Anwhar Raajhaa, an MP who is the Chairperson of Waqf Board, of nominating Jamal Mohideen in 2017 though the latter was removed from the general body in 2003. This was done to loot the resources of the college, the petitioner alleged. Mohideen was also involved in mismanaging the college property and abetting sexual harassment of women staff, he alleged.

Mohideen was officiating as the secretary of the college until the reconstitution of the Board during which he recruited teaching and non-teaching staff. It is alleged that these recruitments were carried out by giving appointments after receiving illegal gratifications. The petitioner alleged that this was shared among Mohideen, Raajhaa and Labour and Employment Minister Nilofer Kafeel.

Two days ago, a division bench restrained Jamal Mohideen from discharging his duty as the secretary and correspondent in-charge of the college.

Raajhaa, the Ramanathapuram MP who was a vocal critic of the BJP, was denied ticket to contest in the coming general election. Instead, the seat has gone to the BJP, an alliance partner in the AIADMK- led front.
