CHENNAI: A used-car businessman from Telangana, who shifted base to Chennai after loss in business, was kidnapped from outside his residence in Alwarthirunagar on Friday over an old business deal that had gone sour. After a chase, city police intercepted the car in which the businessman was kidnapped and rescued him near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh on Friday night.
The victim, Ravinder Gowda (57), was kidnapped and assaulted by a six-member gang from Telangana over a financial dispute from his previous business, police said. All six of them were arrested and brought to the city.
The Koyambedu police registered a case and initiated rescue operations based on a complaint from Ravinder's daughter, Prasanna Lakshmi (26).
According to Lakshmi’s complaint, she and her family members rushed outside the home on hearing the screams of her father, who was sitting outside the house. Much to their shock, they saw Ravinder being bundled into a white SUV which sped off.
Based on information that they provided, the Koyambedu police alerted all toll plazas with the description of the vehicle and the occupants. After constant tracking, they intercepted the car at Nellore.
The arrested persons were identified as Inglaj Veraat Jaiswal (38), Vaikundam Ramulu (41), Mothi Babu Narsing Rao (45) Srikanth (30), TV Preetham Kumar (35), and Bheema Reddy Nagaraj (35), all from Telangana.
The accused were brought to Chennai, produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Probe revealed that Ravinder Gowda resided at Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and had taken loans amounting to several crores to expand his business. However, he suffered losses and shifted base to Chennai.
