A few days ago, several residents of Paikamandhu village locked their houses and went on a ‘padayatra’ pilgrimage to Palani temple and Bannari Amman temple in Satyamangalam. On Tuesday morning, some villagers noticed the doors of houses being broken open.

On receiving information, the Lovedale police rushed to the spot and held inquiries. In one of the houses, owned by Bojan, 56, burglars looted Rs 35,000 in cash and one sovereign of gold jewel. In other houses too, police suspect burglars to have stolen away silk sarees, gold jewels and cash. However, the value of stolen properties in other houses is yet to be known as its occupants were away on pilgrimage.
