Attributing the skyrocketing price of essential commodities during the Deepavali season owing to the three farm laws enacted by the Centre and the support offered by the AIADMK to it, Stalin said the price of pulses has risen by Rs 25 – 60 per kg and the price of onion sold at Rs 100 – 160 per kg was making poor and middle class people weep.
Asking the AIADMK regime to emulate Kerala and focus on passing legislation, fixing base price for vegetables, Stalin said the DMK would enact the law and protect farmers after returning to power next year if the incumbent AIADMK regime does not pay heed.
Claiming that the Uzhavar Sandhais opened in the previous DMK regime to ensure right price to farmers and fair price to consumers were shut in the AIADMK regime, Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition drew the attention of the CM to the law enacted by Punjab against the three farm laws of the Centre, Stalin said the CM of Tamil Nadu neither bothers about farmers welfare nor he has the courage to enact laws like Punjab and Kerala. He also urged the Centre to disallow firms to stock unlimited volume of essential commodities.
