Brain-dead teacher saves 4 lives in Tirupur

DHARAPURAM: The organs of a private school teacher from Dharapuram in Tirupur were donated after she was declared brain-dead, saving 4 lives.

Chitra (49), a resident of Perumal Goundan Valasu area in Kannivadi village near Dharapuram, worked as a teacher in a private school at Pallapatti. Her husband, Selvaraj, had already passed away. She is survived by her daughter Karthika and son Kavin.

On Wednesday, while travelling with her son on a two-wheeler on Karur Road, she lost balance and fell from the vehicle, suffering a severe head injury. She was taken to Apollo Hospital in Karur and later shifted to Apollo Hospital in Tiruchy on Thursday.

On Friday, early morning, doctors declared Chitra brain-dead.

After this, her daughter Karthika and son Kavin donated her organs. Four people received the donated organs. Chitra’s body was brought to her house on Friday.

Dharapuram RTO Kumar, Dharapuram acting DSP Sureshkumar and Tahsildar Ramalingam paid their respects. Teachers from the private school in Pallapatti also visited and paid respects to Chitra.
